El abordaje de la salud de hombres gay que consumen sustancias en México: un acercamiento a través de grupos focales

Introducción: los hombres gays (HG) en México enfrentan retos en salud con particularidades específicas por su orientación sexual. El consumo de sustancias (CS) y su vinculación con la atención a la salud en esta población ha sido poco explorado.
Objetivo: analizar las experiencias y expectativas en la atención a la salud de este sector poblacional, con la finalidad de generar recomendaciones para el abordaje en materia de salud.
Método: se realizaron grupos focales para conocer las experiencias y expectativas de atención de 19 HG usuarios de sustancias, desde un análisis de contenido dirigido a partir de cuatro categorías: experiencias en los servicios de salud, expectativas para un servicio de salud ideal, estrategias de cuidado y autocuidado, y temas para abordar en posibles intervenciones de salud.
Resultados: se reportaron vivencias mayormente negativas en los servicios de salud, explicadas principalmente por el rechazo al uso de drogas y a la orientación sexual. Ante la experiencia compartida del CS en entornos de socialización gay, los HG recurren a prácticas de autocuidado y aportan propuestas para mejorar su atención.
Discusión y conclusiones: los hallazgos sugieren la importancia de una atención especializada no prohibicionista, sin estigma ni discriminación por consumo de sustancias u orientación sexual, por lo que se recomienda la incorporación de protocolos y propuestas de atención desde la reducción de daños.
